It was while studying quantum physics he received an American Chemical Society award, something almost unheard of for an undergraduate student.

He is credited with discovering Sulfonamidochrysoidine (KI-730), the first antibiotic to go on the market (brand name: Prontosil). For example, Neo-Confucianism was a revived version of old Confucianism principles that appeared around the Ming Dynasty with Buddhist, Taoist, and Legalist aspects. The principles expounded by Newton were even applied to the social sciences, influencing the economic theories of Adam Smith and the decision to make the United States legislature bicameral.

This allowed a literate culture to spread universally among wealthier classes, and a great many more could probably read simple inscriptions and clearly written text. For Hobbes, though, the laws of nature are rational from a practical standpoint: they are the sorts of laws that any rational person should adopt to save his or her hide: A law of nature (lex naturalis) is a precept or general rule, found out by reason, by which a man is forbidden to do that which is destructive of his life or takes away the means of preserving the same, and to omit that by which he thinks it may be best preserved. The voluntarism of his De vero bono and De professione does not accord well with the determinism of his De libero arbitrio or with his assertion of God’s ability to undo the past in the Dialectica. and their ‘Nuovi contributi per 1’elenco dei manoscritti e delle edizioni delle Elegantiae di Lorenzo Valla’.

Thus Christian Humanism does not automatically oppose other, even secular, forms of humanism because it recognizes that they all have many common principles, concerns, and roots. However, like Fung, Chang was acquainted with Western culture and studied abroad in Japan and Germany.
