Internal dissension and power struggles were revealed in such domestic crises as the momentous Cultural Revolution (1966–76); the death (1971) in an airplane crash of defense minister Lin Biao while he was allegedly fleeing to the Soviet Union after an abortive attempt to assassinate Mao and establish a military dictatorship; and a major propaganda campaign launched in 1973, which mobilized the masses against such widely ranging objects of attack as Lin Biao, the teachings of Confucius, and cultural exchanges with the West.

Outside of northern peninsular Malaysia, batik designs are usually produced in factories. hierarchy, stays close to kin, follows past examples, and is demure among strangers. China is the world's leading producer of many food crops, including rice, wheat, and sweet potatoes, and is also a major producer of many other crops such as soybeans and peanuts. It was there, at these �boundaries� that ethnicity was �constructed.� By separating ethnicity from culture, Barth made ethnicity an ever changing, socially constructed, subjective construct. [40] In a self-evaluation in 1994, Barth considered himself to have anticipated Postmodernism. [41] Under Barth�s influence, anthropologists �shifted the anthropological emphasis from the static evocation of tribal identity as a feature of social structure to a recognition of ethnic identity as a dynamic aspect of social organization.� This eventually became the �basic anthropological model of ethnicity.� [42] From this emerged instrumental and social constructionist theories of ethnicity.

A single Ministry of Education was re-established in 1975. One of the pillars of the central government's approach to raising ethnic tensions and conflicts during the reform era has been the dual emphasis on economic development and national unity. Since the asylum seekers are often from ethnic groups new in a country, issues relating to their appropriate treatment may also become linked to hostility directed to them as 'strangers'. The minority ethnic nationalities, making up the remaining one-third, live mainly in the resource-rich border areas and hills of Burma, although many have been forcibly removed from their homes by the military-backed government as it confiscates land for development projects and resource exploitation.

The impetus to modernize China culturally and economically stems, in part, from the desire to see China regain the position of influence it once held in Asia. The proposal, from the Malays’ point of view, denied that Malaya belonged to the Malays and that the granting of equal rights to the non-Malays would cause the disappearance of the special position and privileges of the Malays. Technically you'll need a license plate - they are yellow or blue on a motorcycle or green on a scooter and can cost several thousand RMB to register the bike yourself although fake plates are easily available at a lower price - do so at your own risk.
